Tips on Getting Great Photographs for Your Wedding:
(How not to get stressed, and have fun!)
- Be organized and communicate so everyone knows the plans, locations, and times for photography. You don’t want to be running around looking for lost grandmothers. Appoint a family member (bubbly, positive, and fun type) who can assist the photographer to round up the troops.
- Make sure rides, details, and all the small jobs are delegated and organized before your wedding day so on the day you get to sit back, and enjoy.
- Very young children in the bridal party are cute, and offer many photo opportunities, but do have a realistic expectations about their behavior. They may get overtired, cranky and refuse to cooperate.
- Bring a snack, water or juice to avoid crashing or getting dehydrated. Wine or beer is o.k., but in moderation.
- Spend time with your photographer planning and discussing any ideas or concerns. Having your engagement portrait taken is a great ice breaker.
- Book your favorite photographer as soon as possible. It’s not unusual to book 12 months or more in advance.
- Use a bouquet that is small and lighter. The number one complaint I hear is about the wight of the flowers.
- When choosing a wedding dress try walking around in it. Are you comfortable enough in it?
- Allow enough time for photos after the wedding ceremony. Generally 1.5 hours is enough. More time will give you a bigger variety or alternate locations. Do not forget to include drive times when calculating photography time.
- If you see an image you like in a magazine, cut it out and show us!
- If you are using a Wedding make up artist ask them if they will offer you a free trial (during the engagement session) so you can go over your make up needs.
And finally…Photography is an investment, not an expense. Why do you have a friend or relative photograph you wedding? Because it’s cheaper!
Consider what you are doing. You are putting the least amount of money on the most important day or your life AND you are placing a terrible burden and responsibility on an amateur. What are you going to do if they botch your images…ruin a friendship? Disinherit a relative? Invite friends and relatives to enjoy your day…not cover it.
