Charging the Human Battery: 50 Ways to Motivate Yourself

By  Mac Anderson

Charging the Human Battery is a book with universal appeal. Everyone understands the benefits of staying motivated and we’re all hungry for new ideas that could help us. It makes a terrific gift for your friends, family and valued employees.

Excerpted from Charging the Human Battery: 50 Ways to Motivate Yourself

One choice, just one, can change your life forever. Simply put, your life today is what your choices have made it, but with new choices, you can change directions this very moment. For me, that idea alone is highly motivational because it offers tremendous hope, regardless of circumstances, for a better tomorrow.

Your life-changing choice may be to switch careers, to leave an abusive relationship, to go back to school, to stop drinking, to adopt a child, to start a business, to lose weight, to start a charity…to name a few. If you have the courage to do so, you could make any one of those choices, or others, today. And you would change your life.

Sometimes it’s a different kind of choice. It can be to not quit, to not give up in the face of adversity. We’ve all been there.

Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen received 77 rejections for their idea Chicken Soup for the Soul. They had to make a decision each time…should they throw in the towel and say enough is enough, or should they keep trying to pursue their dreams? You know the rest of the story. The 78th publisher said “Yes” and they went on to sell over 100 million books.

So never forget that you are only one choice away from changing your life. Do you have the courage to make it?

Mmmm….Wedding Cake.

Colorado Wedding Cake

Colorado Wedding Cake

Colorado Wedding Cake

Have you ever tasted a bad wedding cake?  I don’t think they exists.  As a Denver Wedding Photographer I have the opportunity to try a lot of wedding cakes.  Every wedding cake I’ve ever tasted has been amazing.  The detail and work that bakers put into a wedding cake.  Is a art form.

My sister-in-law is a baker, and made our cake for our wedding.  Even with the mishap of getting the wedding cake to our reception at the town park in Breckenridge, Colorado.  As she was driving to the reception.  The cake slide, and she did a remarkable job of fixing it.  We didn’t even know that this happened until it was all over.

Are you looking for wedding cakes for your Colorado wedding?  The Colorado Wedding Guide is a great resource for all of your Colorado wedding needs.

Inspired by President Barak H. Obama

January 20, 2009 by Paul ·

Today was a day that I will remember forever. I believe that most of the human race would agree with me. Today, was not about Democrats, Republicans, Liberals, Conservatives, or Independents. Today history was made. America has shown the world that anything is possible in our country.

I am very proud and moved today. I am inspired by the messages that President Obama spoke about today. I truley believe that change is coming, but like President Obama mentioned. It will not be easy, or short.

Great ideas are usually brought about when faced with adversity. I believe we’ve been faced with much adversity, and will design a new future for future generations.

I hope that no matter what you believe that you share the inauguration speech with your children. Today, we made history.

The photos below are from the DNC. I was in the right place at the right time. I was one of two photographers for this special luncheon.

Meet with your potential Denver Wedding Photographer face-to-face!

January 18, 2009 by Paul ·

On May 10th, 1989 – One night before I was to drive cross-country for my summer job as a sky dive photographer in Hampton Bays, New York — I broke my neck. My friend and I were joy riding out by the missile silos near Limon, Colorado. We were driving home in his brand new 280Z, and going way too fast. We flew over this hill – and suddenly we saw big yellow right-hand turn sign.

The car flipped.

In fact, it flipped more than once.

My friend was ejected through the t-top roof, and the right side of the car crushed on top of me. I was 22 years old. We were in the middle of NOwhere.  My buddy was unconscious. I managed to crawl out of the car using sheer adrenaline I guess.

I laid there for what seemed like hours. No other cars came by – until – we finally saw the lights of an 18-wheeler – our saving grace.

I spent the next year doing nothing but healing and thinking about how grateful I was to be alive and able to WALK.

As a result of this, I possess a different view of life than most. I love everything about it. I cherish every moment, and wedding photography is my passion. Capturing one of the most important days of your life is a very special honor.

Playing Guitar at my Summer Wedding in Breckenridge, Colorado.

Let’s start by having a cup of coffee to getting to know each other, before we start talking about wedding prices, wedding albums, and all the other details of a wedding. Read more to find out why I think this is so important.

Yes, there are a lot of great Denver Wedding Photographers here in Colorado. I will never put anyone down, or tell you something bad about another Colorado Wedding Photographer. We all have a certain love, and vision. But, how do you pick?

Don’t pick a Denver Wedding Photographer based on price alone. You will regret it. Your first most important step to picking a wedding photographer is to meet them face-to-face. If you don’t have a connection then you”re missing the most important part of having your greatest day captured. When I meet with potential Brides, Grooms, and their families. Here’s what I like to find out:

  • How did you meet?
  • How did he propose?
  • What do you do for fun?
  • Where was the last place you vacationed together?
  • What part of the world is your dream vacation?
  • What do each of you do for a living?
  • Are you planning on starting a family?
  • What is your favorite music to dance to?
  • Where did you grow up?
  • What are your goals, and dreams?
  • What movies make you laugh out loud?

Of course I will share everything about myself if you’d like to know.

By learning more about each other will help capture those special moments on your wedding day. Special moments happen if you’re comfortable with your wedding photographer.

If you trust me and are willing to open up, together we will create amazing images that will last a lifetime.

The next step is to get together for a cup of coffee, and get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere. No contracts, and no pressure. Just good conversation, and a warming beverage.

Call me today. I am looking forward to knowing you.

Great Photographs for your Wedding.

How not to get stressed!

Wedding dress help from Mom before the Wedding Ceremony.

Wedding dress help from Mom before the Wedding Ceremony.

Have you ever been to a wedding, and you see people getting all stressed out?  Especially during wedding family portraits.  Everyone seems to get very impatient, and just wants to get to the wedding reception.  They want some of that yummy wedding cake, dance, eat, and probably drink a little.

Wedding Planning, and being organized will make for a smooth transition from the Wedding Ceremony to the Wedding Reception.  Here are some tips to have fun during your Wedding Photography session:

  • Be organized, and communicate so everyone knows the plans, locations, times for photography.
  • Have someone from the family working with the wedding photographer with a shot list to gather everyone.  You could be finished in 30 minutes or less with this persons help.
  • Make sure rides, details, and all the small jobs are delegated, and organized before your wedding day.  So, on your wedding day.  You can site back, and take it all in.
  • Bring a snack, water or juice to avoid getting dehydrated.  This is a must for Colorado Weddings.  Whether you are in Denver, or in Breckenridge.  Drink a lot of water.
  • Spend time with your Wedding Photographer planning, discussing any ideas (show cut outs from magazines if your looking for something specific), and concerns a head of time.
  • Use a wedding bouquet that is smaller, and lighter.  The number one complaint I hear is about the weight of the wedding flower bouquet.
  • When choosing a wedding dress try walking around in it.  Don’t just look at yourself in the mirror while your Mom, and girlfriends are oohing & aahing at you.  Walk, dance, and sit.  Having a beautiful wedding dress is one thing.  But, if your are uncomfortable.  What’s the point?
  • Allow enough time for photos after the wedding ceremony.  This is going to depend on what you want.  The first 30 minutes should be the family portraits, and wedding party.  Then when you shuttle everyone to the wedding reception.  This is when you do just the Bride & Groom photos.  This will be the only time to have your undivided attention, and can get those creative fun shots you see in the magazines.  Generally 1.5 hours is the most you will every spend.
  • Again, if you see a image you like in a magazine, cut it out and show it to your wedding photographer!  Most wedding photographers are open, and want to collaborate with you.  After all, it’s your wedding day not theirs.
  • If you are using a Wedding Make-up Artist.  Ask them if they will offer you a free trial.  The best time to schedule this would be during your engagement portrait session.

And finally…wedding photography is an investment, not an expense.  Why do you have a friend or relative photograph your wedding?  Because it’s cheaper!  Consider what you are doing.  You are putting the least amount of money on the most important day of your life, you are placing a terrible burden, and responsibility on an amateur.  What are you going to do if they botch your images (are they insured in case this happens), ruin a friendship?  Disinherit a relative?  Invite friends, and relatives to enjoy your day…not cover it.
